Good Morning Bitcoin, 10 September
Today's Snapshot
- U.S. Bank launches USBDC stablecoin pilot on Stellar
- Block files OCC charter for Bitcoin custody bank
- KB Kookmin brings blockchain trade rails to South Korea
Yesterday was one of those rare days when three separate institutions made a concrete on-chain move instead of offering another press-release promise. U.S. Bank settled a live cross-border payment with its own stablecoin. Jack Dorsey's Block filed to become a federally chartered Bitcoin custody bank. And South Korea's largest lender went live on JP Morgan's blockchain trade-payment network. Let's get into it:
U.S. Bank Completes Live USBDC Stablecoin Payment on Stellar
The news U.S. Bancorp announced on 9 September 2026 that it completed a live pilot transaction using USBDC, its proprietary US dollar stablecoin, for a cross-border payment between entities in North America and Europe. The transaction ran on the Stellar blockchain. U.S. Bank is exploring USBDC for treasury payments, 24/7 liquidity management, cross-border treasury management and faster payment settlement.
More on this U.S. Bancorp is the fifth-largest US commercial bank by assets. A live inter-entity settlement, rather than a sandbox demo, marks a meaningful step up in commitment. The bank said it is reviewing stablecoin use cases for always-on liquidity and collateral management, areas where sub-cent transaction fees and instant finality may matter more than recognition of the underlying chain.
The timing looks deliberate. The GENIUS Act, which passed the Senate in June, created a federal regulatory path for bank-issued stablecoins. By completing a live transaction now, U.S. Bank is moving ahead of the commercial rollout window it targets for 2027. Stellar hosted the pilot, but the bank hasn't committed to one chain for commercial deployment.
What's next? U.S. Bank hasn't confirmed a timeline for client availability. Commercial deployment will follow further regulatory review under the GENIUS Act framework and internal risk sign-off.
The Takeaway
The fifth-largest US bank just proved stablecoin settlement works in production, and the chain race is still open.
U.S. Bank chose Stellar for a pilot, but it hasn't committed to Stellar at scale. For a bank processing billions in daily treasury flows, the winning settlement chain will need sub-cent fees, throughput measured in hundreds of thousands of transactions per second and regulatory legibility. BSV's Teranode architecture targets more than one million transactions per second at fees below $0.001. No other public chain has combined those numbers with an original-protocol, fixed-rule design that enterprise legal and compliance teams can underwrite. As bank stablecoin deployments move from pilot to commercial use in 2027, the settlement layer question could become the banking system's most important infrastructure decision this decade. BSV is positioned to answer it.
Block Files with OCC for Builders Bank - A Federal Bitcoin Custody Trust
The news Block, co-founded by Jack Dorsey, submitted an application to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on 8 September 2026 to form Builders Bank and Trust, N.A. The proposed institution would operate as an uninsured national trust bank under direct OCC oversight, offering custody and fiduciary services for Bitcoin and stablecoins. It wouldn't take customer deposits or extend loans. Lee Woolley, Block's Digital Asset Strategy Lead and former bank executive, is named as president and CEO.
More on this Block joins a broad group moving toward federal charters. Of the 40 new-bank applications the OCC received over the past 18 months, 23 involve digital asset activity. That represents 57.5% of all new charter applications. The main motive is moving from state-by-state money transmitter licensing to one federal charter: OCC approval lets a national trust bank operate in all 50 states under one regulatory relationship rather than 50.
The application puts Block in the same regulatory conversation as Anchorage Digital, which holds the only existing OCC digital-asset bank charter. A second chartered Bitcoin custodian at this scale would give institutional investors and corporate treasury teams another federally regulated option for holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets.
What's next? OCC review timelines for trust bank charters typically run six to eighteen months. Builders Bank would begin operations only after OCC approval. Block may continue operating its existing money transmitter licenses in parallel during the review.
The Takeaway
57% of new OCC bank applications involve digital assets. Bitcoin custody is becoming regulated banking infrastructure.
The significance of that number is structural. When more than half of all new US bank charter applications involve digital assets, Bitcoin custody is no longer a fringe product. It's banking. For BSV, the regulated custody thesis matters in a specific way: Bitcoin SV maintains the original-protocol design Satoshi published, with a fixed rule set and no governance votes that could reclassify the asset. That legal predictability is exactly what bank compliance teams need when deciding which Bitcoin to hold in a federally chartered trust.
As regulated custodians multiply, the question of which Bitcoin has the most defensible legal profile becomes a competitive differentiator. BSV's immutable protocol is its answer.
KB Kookmin Bank Goes Live on JP Morgan's Kinexys Blockchain Trade Network
The news KB Kookmin Bank, South Korea's largest bank by assets, has launched a blockchain-based import and export payment service using Kinexys by JP Morgan's Blockchain Deposit Account network. KB Kookmin is the first Korean financial institution on the Kinexys BDA network. Importers and exporters can use the shared blockchain ledger to send and receive trade payments with near-instant settlement to 10 countries including the US, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, South Africa and Korea. The service is available at KB Kookmin's domestic branches and its Singapore branch.
More on this The partnership follows KB Kookmin issuing South Korea's first blockchain-powered digital bond in June 2026, raising $100 million through HSBC's Orion platform. Kinexys BDA is a permissioned blockchain that functions as a shared ledger between participating banks. It replaces the correspondent banking chain for trade settlement. Payments that previously took two to three days across SWIFT and correspondent accounts now settle in minutes.
The launch matters because of the trade flows involved. Korea is a major exporter of semiconductors, electronics and shipbuilding components. Import and export payment flows between Korea and the 10 Kinexys network countries run into the hundreds of billions of dollars each year.
What's next? JP Morgan has expanded the Kinexys network steadily through 2025 and 2026. More Korean banks are expected to follow KB Kookmin onto the network. Euro-denominated and won-denominated settlement corridors are likely next additions.
The Takeaway
Korea's biggest bank just chose blockchain rails over SWIFT for trade finance. The question is whether permissioned walled gardens or open public chains win at scale.
JP Morgan's Kinexys is a permissioned network. Each bank that joins needs a direct relationship with JP Morgan and operates within JP Morgan's governance rules. That's a walled garden, not open infrastructure. BSV's public ledger would let banks in any country interconnect on shared rails without needing a single counterparty's permission.
As trade-finance volumes on blockchain grow, the permissioned model will face pressure from interoperability. A Korean exporter paying a Bahraini importer on Kinexys works when both banks are members, but the global trade network includes thousands of banks across 190 countries. Open public infrastructure can address that scale in a way no single institution's permissioned chain can. BSV's always-on, fixed-cost architecture is built for exactly that global settlement layer role.
What to Watch
- CLARITY Act countdown: The Senate cloture vote on US crypto market structure legislation lands on September 15, just six days from now. Galaxy Research puts the odds of the bill becoming law in 2026 at about 10%. Polymarket odds have fallen from 82% in February to 16% as of September 6.
- Bitcoin near $79K on Middle East risk: Bitcoin opened at $78,446 on September 9 and stayed near $78,800 through the morning session. The global crypto market cap stood at $2.78 trillion, while Bitcoin dominance reached 56.9%.
