SonicStar, a music platform built on the BSV blockchain, reported this week that artist Ruth Heasman earned nearly as much in a few weeks on the platform as she accumulated over two years on Spotify. The platform routes nanopayments directly to creators per stream, enforced by blockchain transactions with no intermediary delays and no minimum payout thresholds. Artists retain 75% of sales revenue, with 15% going to the platform and the remainder covering infrastructure and sustainability. SonicStar also supports 1Sat Ordinals, allowing artists to sell individual tracks as on-chain digital assets, giving fans and collectors provably unique ownership rather than a revocable streaming licence.
The economics work because the protocol enforces them. Each stream triggers a nanopayment settled directly on-chain. There is no clearing house, no 60-day payment cycle and no platform discretion over what counts. The blockchain is the contract. Autonomous AI agents processed over $73 million across 176 million blockchain transactions between May 2025 and April 2026. Roughly 76% of those transactions fell below the 30-cent threshold where traditional card payments become uneconomical. BSV's x402 protocol, which recently went permissionless on a $5 per month Cloudflare Workers deployment, is purpose-built for this use case. The underlying standard, BRC-105, allows AI agents to automatically pay each other for services without human intermediaries, using BSV's unbounded block sizes and sub-cent fees as the settlement layer.
Coinbase, Stripe, Google and Visa are each building machine-to-machine payment infrastructure and each brings distribution advantages BSV currently lacks. BSV's architectural response is a stable protocol since the Chronicle upgrade, Teranode targeting 1 million or more transactions per second and fees measured in fractions of a cent. When 76% of transactions are under $0.30, the infrastructure problem is not speed but unit economics. Card networks impose minimum fixed fees that consume the entire value of a micropayment.
